Count the house, but know what it's doing. Home equity is real net worth,
but it isn't spendable without selling or borrowing. Some people track two lines — total
net worth and "invested net worth" excluding the primary residence. The second is the one
that actually funds retirement.
Update it monthly, not daily. Checking more often than that mostly
produces anxiety during drawdowns and overconfidence during runs. The point of the chart
is the multi-year slope, not the month-to-month noise.
